Finding the Perfect Time
Best Time of Day
Early Morning (6:00 AM - 9:00 AM) is by far the best time to visit. Arriving as the gates open or shortly after allows you to see the sunrise over Lake Nasser and watch the first light hit the temple facades. You'll also enjoy cooler temperatures and fewer crowds before the main convoys from Aswan arrive.
Best Season
October to April offers the most pleasant weather for visiting Southern Egypt. Temperatures are warm but manageable. The peak tourist season is from December to February, so expect larger crowds during these months.
May to September is the low season due to the extreme heat, with daytime temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F). If you can tolerate the heat, you'll be rewarded with significantly fewer visitors.
The Sun Festival
A truly unique time to visit is during the Sun Festival, which occurs twice a year around February 22nd and October 22nd. On these days, the rising sun aligns perfectly to illuminate the inner sanctuary. While it is a spectacular event, be prepared for massive crowds and a very different, more festive atmosphere.
